Meta recently issued an apology after Instagram users reported an overwhelming influx of graphic and disturbing content being recommended in their feeds. The company acknowledged that Instagram’s Algorithm Malfunctioned, calling it an “error,” and assured users that the problem had been resolved.

“We have fixed an error that caused some users to see content in their Instagram Reels feed that should not have been recommended,” a Meta spokesperson said.

Comparisons to Elon Musk’s X

Some analysts have drawn comparisons between Meta’s content moderation policies and the changes implemented by Elon Musk on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Since Musk acquired X in 2022, he has loosened content restrictions. He reinstated previously banned accounts and made algorithmic changes that some argue have increased the spread of controversial content.
