GTA 6 Release Date Is Getting Closer: Story, Platforms and Everything You Need to Know

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is now one of the most anticipated video games of 2026, and the long wait is finally approaching its end. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the game will launch on November 19, 2026, bringing players back to Vice City and the wider state of Leonida.

Unlike some previous GTA releases, GTA 6 is currently confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC release date yet.

When Is GTA 6 Releasing?

Rockstar Games has officially scheduled Grand Theft Auto VI for Thursday, November 19, 2026.

The release date was moved from the previously planned May 2026 launch. Rockstar said the additional development time would allow the studio to deliver the level of polish expected from the series.

With the launch now only weeks away, Rockstar has continued its marketing campaign with trailers, gameplay footage, screenshots and other promotional material.

Where Will GTA 6 Be Available?

At launch, GTA 6 is confirmed for:

• PlayStation 5
• Xbox Series X
• Xbox Series S

Rockstar's official GTA 6 website currently lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as the supported platforms. A PC version has not been given an official release date.

GTA 6 Story and Main Characters

The new game takes players back to the fictional world of Vice City, located within the larger state of Leonida.

The story follows Jason and Lucia, two characters whose lives become increasingly complicated after a criminal job goes wrong. Rockstar describes their journey as a struggle through a wider conspiracy across Leonida, forcing the pair to depend on each other.

This means GTA 6 is not simply a return to the classic Vice City setting. Rockstar is expanding the setting into a much larger world with different locations, characters and environments.

What Is Vice City Like in GTA 6?

Vice City returns in a modern setting, offering a very different experience from the 2002 game that originally made the fictional city famous.

This time, players will explore a much more detailed version of the city along with other parts of Leonida. Rockstar's promotional material has already shown beaches, highways, rural areas, businesses and other locations outside the main city.

The result is expected to be one of the largest and most detailed open-world environments Rockstar has created.

GTA 6 Gameplay

Rockstar has described GTA 6 as the next major evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series.

The trailers have highlighted driving, shooting, exploration, character interactions and a wide variety of environments. The game is also being designed around Jason and Lucia's relationship, making the two protagonists an important part of the overall experience.

Rather than simply recreating the formula of GTA V, Rockstar appears to be using the new generation of consoles to create a more detailed world and more sophisticated gameplay systems.

Will GTA 6 Have Multiplayer?

Rockstar's currently announced launch information describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience. The company has not provided a complete launch plan for a new GTA Online experience connected to GTA 6.

Because GTA Online became a major part of the previous generation of Grand Theft Auto, many players are naturally expecting Rockstar to eventually reveal more about the multiplayer side of the new game.

For now, however, the confirmed information should be limited to what Rockstar has officially announced.

GTA 6 Pre-Orders and Editions

Rockstar has already opened pre-orders for GTA 6.

The Standard Edition has an official price of $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition is listed at $99.99. The Ultimate Edition includes additional digital content connected to the game's characters and world.

Players who purchase the game before November 20 are also eligible for the Vintage Vice City Pack, according to Rockstar's official store information.

When Can Players Preload GTA 6?

Digital pre-orders can begin pre-loading November 12, 2026, one week before the official launch.

Rockstar has also confirmed that physical versions are being supplied as code-in-box editions, allowing players to preload the game ahead of release.

What About a PC Version?

This is one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding GTA 6.

Rockstar has officially confirmed PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for launch, but there is currently no announced PC release date.

Rockstar has historically released some major GTA titles on PC after their initial console launch, so PC players may have to wait for a separate announcement.

Why GTA 6 Is So Highly Anticipated

GTA 6 has been in development for years, and expectations have grown enormously during the long wait.

Rockstar is returning to one of the most recognizable locations in the franchise while introducing a completely new story, two central characters and a much larger version of the Vice City setting.

The game is also arriving exclusively on current-generation consoles, giving Rockstar an opportunity to focus on hardware capable of delivering significantly more detailed environments and gameplay.
