Samsung has expanded its M-series lineup with the launch of the Galaxy M06 5G and Galaxy M16 5G in India. While these models introduce new branding, they are essentially rebranded versions of the Galaxy A16 5G and Galaxy F06 5G, featuring minor design tweaks and the same core specifications.
Both devices cater to users looking for affordable 5G smartphones with long-term software support and decent hardware for everyday use.
Design and Display
The Galaxy M16 5G features a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, offering a vibrant and smooth visual experience. In contrast, the Galaxy M06 5G comes with an LCD of similar size, aimed at budget-conscious consumers. Samsung has slightly refreshed the design, with the M16 featuring a unified camera island, distinguishing it from the three separate camera rings seen on previous models.
Both devices come in stylish color options, with the M16 5G available in Blush Pink, Mint Green, and Thunder Black, while the M06 5G is offered in Sage Green and Blazing Black.
Internals and Software
The Galaxy M16 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, delivering a balance of performance and efficiency. It runs One UI 7 based on Android 15, and Samsung promises six years of OS and security updates, making it a future-proof option.
On the other hand, the Galaxy M06 5G is equipped with an identical processor, paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It runs on One UI Core 7.0, a slightly lighter version of Samsung’s software. Samsung ensures four generations of Android OS updates and four years of security patches for this model.
Camera
Both smartphones offer a triple-camera setup, with the M16 5G featuring a 50MP main camera, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro shooter. The M06 5G also carries a 50MP primary sensor, but the ultrawide and macro lenses may be absent or reduced in capability. For selfies and video calls, both models include a front-facing camera that delivers decent results for social media and casual use.
Battery and Pricing
The Galaxy M16 5G is backed by a 5,000mAh battery, supporting 25W wired charging, ensuring a full day of usage without issues. Similarly, the Galaxy M06 5G houses the same battery capacity, but its charging speed may be slightly slower due to its budget positioning.
Both devices offer reliable performance for daily tasks such as browsing, social media, and video streaming. However, the M16 5G’s Dimensity chipset gives it an edge in gaming and multitasking compared to the M06 5G.
The Galaxy M16 5G starts at INR 11,499 ($132), with sales beginning on March 5. Meanwhile, the Galaxy M06 5G starts at INR 9,499 ($109), with open sales in India starting on March 7.
