Pokémon UNITE Is Shutting Down in March 2027: What Players Need to Know

Fans of Pokémon UNITE have received some disappointing news. The Pokémon Company has officially confirmed that the popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game will shut down in 2027.

According to the official announcement, Pokémon UNITE will end service on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC. After that time, players will no longer be able to log into the game or take part in online battles.

The announcement marks the end of a game that brought the Pokémon franchise into the competitive MOBA genre and attracted players on both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

When Will Pokémon UNITE Shut Down?

The final shutdown is scheduled for March 23, 2027.

However, the game is entering its sunset period before the final closure. Starting November 12, 2026, Pokémon UNITE will move into a reduced end-of-service phase as the developers prepare for the game's final months.

Players therefore still have several months to enjoy their favorite Pokémon and participate in the final activities before the servers are permanently closed.

Aeos Gems Purchases Have Ended

One of the biggest changes is the closure of the game's premium currency shop.

Players can no longer purchase Aeos Gems, the premium currency used for various in-game items. This means Pokémon UNITE is no longer operating as it did during its regular live-service period.

The developers are instead preparing special activities and opportunities for players to enjoy during the game's final months.

Final Events and Discounts Are Coming

The shutdown doesn't mean Pokémon UNITE will simply disappear overnight.

The developers have announced a final period of activities leading up to the game's closure. One of the highlights will be a special shop sale featuring previously released items.

Some items are expected to be offered at discounts of up to 80%, giving longtime players an opportunity to collect content they may have missed.

The final sale is also expected to include Holowear and Trainer Fashion items that were previously unavailable or connected to older Battle Passes.

What Happens to Pokémon UNITE After March 2027?

Once the service officially ends, players will no longer be able to log into Pokémon UNITE or participate in its online battles.

The official announcement also says there are currently no plans for an offline version of the game.

There is, however, one exception worth noting.

Players who complete the required library data download before the shutdown will still be able to access the game's library feature after service ends.

That gives players at least one way to preserve some memories and information from their time with the game.

Pokémon UNITE's Final Competitive Event

The game's competitive scene will also get a final spotlight.

The Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo competitive tournament is scheduled to take place as part of the game's final period. The event is intended to give the community one more major Pokémon UNITE competition before the service comes to an end.

The game's future at major World Championship events had already been changing, making the shutdown announcement less unexpected for some longtime players.

A Final Goodbye for Pokémon UNITE

Pokémon UNITE launched on Nintendo Switch in 2021 before arriving on mobile devices later that year. Its team-based 5-on-5 battles offered a different way to experience the Pokémon franchise, combining familiar Pokémon characters with the mechanics of a competitive MOBA.

After several years of updates, new Pokémon, cosmetics and competitive events, the game is now approaching its final chapter.

For current players, the best option is to enjoy the remaining months, take part in the final events and collect any content they want before the March 2027 shutdown.
