PTA Chairman Approves Major Transfer and Reshuffle of 10 Director Generals Across Key Departments

سبتمبر 29, 2026  Chaudhry Arslan  134 مشاهدة

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has carried out a sweeping administrative reshuffle, transferring ten director generals across its major departments after approval from the PTA chairman.

The changes touch nearly every functional wing of the authority, from consumer protection and enforcement to wireless licensing, audit, and international relations, signalling a broad internal reorganization rather than a handful of isolated postings.

Who Moves Where

Ahmed Shameem Pirzada has been appointed Director General Consumer Protection, taking charge of the wing responsible for handling complaints and safeguarding telecom users’ rights.

Dr. Khurram Ali Mehran moves into the role of Director General International Relations and General Administration, a position that combines the authority’s external engagement with internal administrative oversight.

Ehsan Yar Khan has been made Director General Information and Communication Technology, while Nauman Khalid takes over as Director General Wireless Licensing, a wing central to spectrum and radio-frequency approvals.

Aamir Shahzad has been posted as Director General Enforcement, and Amjad Mustafa Malik has been named Director General Strategy and Development. Yasir Yaqoob has been appointed Director General Audit at PTA.

Two officers have picked up dual responsibilities. Waseeullah Khan retains his post as DG Human Resources and Coordination while also taking additional charge of DG Licensing and Regulations. Tayyab bin Tahir Khan continues as DG Commercial Affairs and has been given additional charge of DG Administration.

Why the Reshuffle Matters

PTA’s director generals sit at the operational core of telecom regulation in Pakistan, overseeing everything from spectrum licensing and consumer complaints to enforcement action against unauthorized operators and audits of the authority’s own finances.

A reshuffle of this scale effectively resets leadership across most of the authority’s regulatory functions at once. Wireless licensing and enforcement, in particular, carry direct consequences for telecom operators, since these wings process spectrum applications and pursue action against illegal transmission or unregistered devices.

What to Watch Next

PTA has not publicly detailed the rationale behind the timing or scope of this reshuffle. What matters going forward is continuity: consumer complaints, spectrum licensing decisions, and enforcement cases currently in process will now move through new officers, and how smoothly that handover happens will shape the authority’s regulatory output in the coming months.

For an authority that regulates a sector as fast-moving as telecom, leadership stability in wings like enforcement and licensing tends to matter more to industry players than the reshuffle announcement itself. That is the part worth tracking once the new director generals settle into their posts.
