GTA 6 Could Save Players Nearly $5,000, Millionaire Explains How

Could buying a video game actually help you save thousands of dollars? According to millionaire investor and content creator Mark Tilbury, Grand Theft Auto 6 could potentially save players nearly $5,000 by giving them a reason to spend more evenings at home instead of going out.

With GTA 6 approaching its highly anticipated launch, Tilbury has shared a calculation suggesting that spending time in Rockstar's fictional Vice City could be considerably cheaper than regular nights at restaurants, bars and entertainment venues.

His argument has attracted attention online, although the numbers depend heavily on how much someone normally spends when going out.

How Mark Tilbury Calculates the Cost of GTA 6

Tilbury's calculation starts with an assumed price of $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 on PlayStation.

The standard edition is listed at $79.99 in his comparison. Using the more expensive edition, he estimates that players could get around 80 hours of gameplay, bringing the entertainment cost to approximately $1.25 per hour.

That 80-hour estimate is based on a Rockstar developer's playthrough, including optional missions. It should not be treated as Rockstar's confirmed campaign length, since individual playtimes will vary.

Players who spend more time exploring the open world, completing side activities and discovering optional content could stretch their experience even further.

For example, 200 hours of gameplay would bring the estimated cost down to roughly 50 cents per hour.

The $5,000 Savings Calculation Explained

The biggest part of Tilbury's argument involves comparing gaming with the cost of going out.

He uses an example of someone who spends $100 every evening on restaurants, drinks and entertainment. If that person chooses to stay home and play GTA 6 for four hours each evening over 50 nights, the alternative entertainment spending would total $5,000.

After subtracting the $99.99 game price, the potential difference would be approximately $4,900.

In other words, the game could appear to pay for itself many times over if it replaces expensive outings that someone would otherwise have paid for.

However, this is a hypothetical comparison rather than a guaranteed financial saving. It assumes that players would actually spend $100 on each of those 50 evenings.

Why Some Gamers Disagree With the Claim

Not everyone is convinced by the calculation.

Some viewers questioned whether playing for four hours every evening is realistic. Others pointed out that spending $100 on every night out is far beyond what many people normally spend.

There is also an important distinction between replacing an existing expense and simply adding another entertainment activity.

Someone who already prefers staying home will not automatically save $5,000 by purchasing GTA 6. The financial benefit only makes sense if gaming genuinely replaces spending that would otherwise have taken place.

Still, Tilbury's calculation has started an interesting conversation about the value of video games compared with other forms of entertainment.

GTA 6 Is Expected to Offer Hours of Open-World Entertainment

Rockstar Games' upcoming title is one of the most anticipated video game releases, with players looking forward to returning to Vice City and exploring the wider state of Leonida.

The game is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Its open-world design is expected to offer more than just the main story, with exploration and optional activities likely to provide additional entertainment for players after completing the central missions.

The actual amount of time players will spend in the game will only become clear after launch.

Is GTA 6 Really Worth the Money?

Tilbury's $5,000 argument is best understood as an entertaining way to compare the cost of gaming with expensive nights out.

A game that provides dozens or potentially hundreds of hours of entertainment can offer strong value when compared with activities that require repeated spending.

However, the savings depend on personal habits, the edition purchased and how much time someone spends playing.

For GTA fans who already enjoy open-world games, GTA 6 may provide plenty of entertainment for its purchase price. But calling it a way to save nearly $5,000 is more of a hypothetical financial comparison than a promise of actual savings.
