The Division 2 Year 8 Season 3: Red Horizon Brings Cleaners to Washington, D.C.

Ubisoft has introduced a major seasonal update for Tom Clancy's The Division 2, bringing a familiar enemy faction to a new location. Titled Year 8 Season 3: Red Horizon, the update sends the Cleaners into Washington, D.C., where players must defend the city against their growing presence.

Released on August 27, 2026, Red Horizon introduces new enemies, gameplay modifiers, weapons, Exotic gear, Dark Zone changes, and additional missions. The season also brings improvements to PvP and expands the ways players can customize their combat builds.

One of the biggest changes is the arrival of the Cleaners, a faction previously associated with New York City in The Division universe.

The Cleaners Arrive in Washington, D.C.

The Cleaners are at the center of Red Horizon's storyline. Following the events of the Battle for Brooklyn expansion, the faction has moved into Washington, D.C., searching for a new source of fuel after losing its supply of purple flame.

During the season, Cleaners appear throughout the open world, participate in activities, attack Control Points, and initiate Retaliations.

Players will also encounter a new Elite Kill Squad known as 95 Company, which joins the growing threat during faction Retaliations.

Their arrival changes the open-world experience and gives returning players new enemies and encounters to tackle.

New Under Pressure Gameplay Modifier

Red Horizon introduces a new global modifier called Under Pressure, built around a Pressure Gauge that increases during combat.

Players generate Pressure through different actions, including:

• Eliminating enemies.
• Landing headshots.
• Performing multikills.
• Getting Skill kills.
• Eliminating enemies with Status Effects.
• Defeating enemies using fire.
• Helping teammates eliminate opponents.

As the Pressure Gauge increases, players receive stronger bonuses.

Fiery Aura improves Armor Regeneration and Damage Resistance. It also provides additional protection while sprinting and sets nearby enemies on fire when they enter its range.

Vicarious Combustion

This modifier focuses on headshot damage and fire effects. Landing a headshot on an enemy already burning can spread the Burn effect to nearby opponents.

Signed, Shield, Delivered

This modifier improves Signature Weapon performance, Shield Health, and Shield Active Regeneration. It also allows certain kills to refill the player's magazine without consuming reserve ammunition.

Alongside these abilities, Red Horizon includes 20 Passive Modifiers that let players adjust the Pressure system to better match their builds.

New Exotic Weapons and Gear

The update introduces several new equipment options, giving players additional ways to experiment with different combat strategies.

Fafnir Exotic Shotgun

Fafnir is a new Exotic Shotgun featuring the Dragon's Breath talent.

Each shot has a 40% chance to apply Burn to an enemy, while its weapon damage receives an additional boost based on the player's Status Effect bonus.

This weapon is particularly suited to builds focused on fire damage and Status Effects.

Iron Will Exotic Chest

Iron Will introduces the Resolved talent, which allows the player's next body shot to count as a headshot.

The effect has a two-second cooldown in PvE and a three-second cooldown in PvP.

It requires a Marksman Rifle, Rifle, or Pistol, giving players additional options for precision-focused builds.

Ember Engine Gear Set

Another major addition is the Ember Engine Gear Set.

Its bonuses include:

• Two pieces: 8% Skill Efficiency.
• Three pieces: 30% Status Effect.
• Four pieces: Unlocks the Spontaneous Combustion talent.

Spontaneous Combustion gives every Status Effect a 40% chance to apply Burn to an enemy. If the original effect is already Burn, the enemy receives an additional 25% Burn Damage for the duration.

The Chest and Backpack pieces provide further improvements to the set's fire-based abilities.

Dark Zone Receives Major Changes

The Dark Zone is another important part of the Red Horizon update.

Ubisoft has introduced the Blackout Dark Zone and made the Toxic Dark Zone a permanent PvE option.

Toxic Dark Zone

The Toxic Dark Zone is designed for players who prefer PvE encounters instead of fighting other agents.

Ubisoft has adjusted its mechanics to keep the mode available permanently. Other enemy factions, including Black Tusk, can now appear in the area.

Players can also find contaminated caches from Landmark chests, with a 20% chance of receiving one. These caches can contain special Dark Zone rewards, including Exotic items, Named Items, and exclusive gear.

Blackout Dark Zone

Blackout introduces a different experience for PvP players.

Unlike the standard normalized environment, this mode removes stat normalization, allowing players to use the full strength of their builds, including SHD Watch and Expertise upgrades.

The area remains permanently Invaded, with Black Tusk serving as the primary enemy faction.

Players can encounter stronger enemies and earn Heroic-quality loot, along with opportunities to obtain additional contaminated items.

Two New Classified Assignments

Red Horizon also adds two Classified Assignments during the season.

The District Mall Inferno sends players to the District Mall after Agent Felix McNally is attacked while attempting to recover broad-spectrum antivirals. The Cleaners are closing in, while an unknown attacker connected to a SHD anomaly remains a threat.

The Georgetown Dead Zone takes players into an area of Georgetown that has not been covered by the SHD network. A JTF engineering team sent to install new technology has disappeared, leaving agents to investigate what happened.

Both assignments expand the seasonal story and provide additional missions for players.

Season Pass and New Rewards

The Red Horizon Season Pass includes free and premium reward tracks.

The free track offers several items, including:

• Fafnir Exotic Shotgun.
• Iron Will Exotic Chest.
• Beaufort Outfit.
• Weapon skins.
• Named weapons and gear.
• Exotic Caches.
• Red Horizon Caches.

The optional Premium Season Pass costs 1,000 Premium Credits, equivalent to approximately $9.99, and includes additional outfits, weapon cosmetics, Exotic Caches, and other rewards.

Ubisoft also offers Red Horizon bundles with additional content, including Classified Assignments and Season Pass progression boosts.

Crossplay Is Coming to The Division 2

Alongside Red Horizon, Ubisoft has confirmed that crossplay is coming to The Division 2 in November 2026.

The feature is designed to bring players together across supported platforms, making it easier to join friends and improve matchmaking.

Ubisoft says crossplay will be enabled by default, although players will have the option to disable it from the Character Selection screen.

Clans will also move to the crossplay environment, with their maximum membership capacity increasing from 50 to 100 players.
