Pakistan’s exports of telecommunications, computer and information services increased by 17.4 percent during the first two months of FY2026-27, reaching $811 million against $691 million in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year, latest official data showed.

The strong growth in IT-related services provided further support to the country’s services export earnings and foreign exchange inflows during July-August 2026.

According to the data on exports and imports of goods and services, exports under telecommunications, computer and information services stood at $394 million in August 2026, compared with $337 million in August 2025, showing an increase of 16.9 percent year-on-year.

In July 2026, exports under the category were recorded at $417 million, taking the cumulative July-August receipts to $811 million.

The data showed that telecommunications, computer and information services remained the largest component of Pakistan’s services exports, accounting for around 45 percent of total services exports of $1.811 billion during July-August FY2026-27.

Total exports of services increased to $1.811 billion during the first two months of FY2026-27 from $1.405 billion in the same period of FY2025-26, registering growth of around 29 percent.

The latest figures indicate that technology-related exports continued to make a substantial contribution to Pakistan’s external sector, with IT and telecom services generating a major share of the country’s services export receipts.

Within the broader services sector, exports of transport services rose to $178 million in July-August FY2026-27 from $131 million, while travel services increased to $222 million from $90 million.

Exports of other business services also rose to $420 million from $303 million during the period.

The overall improvement in services exports helped contain the widening merchandise trade gap, as the combined goods and services balance showed a deficit of $6.752 billion during July-August FY2026-27, compared with $5.964 billion in the corresponding period of FY2025-26.

The data showed goods exports at $5.445 billion during July-August FY2026-27 against $5.238 billion last year, while imports of goods reached $11.635 billion, compared with $10.449 billion.

The continued rise in IT and telecom services exports highlights the growing importance of the digital sector as a source of foreign exchange earnings, alongside traditional merchandise exports.
