Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold Review: Durability, Display, Camera and Price

نومبر 01, 2026  Chaudhry Arslan  25 مشاهدة

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold isn't trying to completely reinvent Google's foldable phone formula. Instead, the latest generation focuses on refining the hardware, improving durability and making a few meaningful upgrades to the display, wireless charging and camera system.

That approach makes the Pixel 11 Pro Fold an interesting option for buyers who already like Google's software and camera experience. However, with wider foldables and increasingly competitive hardware from other manufacturers, Google's traditional book-style design now faces more competition than before.

After spending time with the device, TechCrunch's Ivan Mehta found plenty to like, particularly its sturdy construction and Pixel software experience. However, the phone still has some weaknesses, including its noticeable display crease and cameras that don't quite match Google's regular Pixel Pro phones.

A More Durable Pixel Fold

One of the biggest improvements to the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is durability.

The previous-generation Pixel 10 Pro Fold was already considered a sturdy foldable, but Google says the new model is three times more durable. The phone also uses a new glass-ceramic cover and a glass-fiber composite back designed to provide additional protection against everyday impacts.

The reviewer experienced several accidental drops during testing without noticing visible dents or scratches, although individual results will obviously vary.

Google has also retained an IP68 rating, which remains an important advantage for the Pixel foldable. The rating provides protection against dust and water and gives the phone a level of environmental resistance that isn't common across every premium foldable.

The trade-off is that the redesigned hinge is quite firm. That contributes to the phone's durability, but it also means opening the device with one hand isn't particularly easy.

Thinner and Lighter Than Before

Google hasn't radically changed the Pixel 11 Pro Fold's overall appearance.

Instead, the company has made the familiar design slimmer and lighter. The phone measures approximately 5mm when unfolded and 10.1mm when folded, compared with 5.2mm and 10.8mm respectively for the previous generation.

It's also around 19 grams lighter, although that difference may not be immediately obvious when switching from another foldable.

The result is a more refined version of the same basic Pixel Fold concept rather than an entirely new design.

Google offers the phone in Olive and Obsidian finishes, with Olive providing a more distinctive look.

Brighter 8-Inch Foldable Display

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold continues to use a large internal display, but Google has increased its peak brightness.

The screen can reach up to 3,600 nits, compared with 3,000 nits on the previous model. That should make the display easier to view outdoors and under bright lighting conditions.

The cover display has also grown slightly, maintaining the relatively comfortable proportions of Google's outer screen.

However, one familiar problem remains: the inner display crease is still quite noticeable.

The crease can become especially obvious under bright lighting. That's an area where some competing foldables from companies such as Oppo and Honor have made more aggressive progress.

For users who frequently read, watch videos or work on the large screen, the crease remains one of the more visible compromises.

HiLight Adds a New Touch

Google has added a feature called HiLight to the camera bar.

Rather than functioning as a traditional notification light, HiLight can illuminate in different colors for selected events. For example, it can indicate calls from favorite contacts or activate while you're communicating with Gemini hands-free.

It's an interesting addition, but it isn't a feature that fundamentally changes how the phone works.

Android and Gemini Features

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold runs Android 17 and brings Google's latest AI features into the foldable experience.

Multitasking works well in supported applications, particularly when apps are designed for larger screens. Gmail, for example, can display the inbox alongside an individual email, making the extra screen space genuinely useful.

However, app optimization remains inconsistent.

Some applications still don't take full advantage of the large inner display, and the phone generally limits traditional split-screen multitasking to two apps. Google does offer floating app bubbles and a taskbar, which provide another way to quickly access applications without completely leaving the current screen.

Google's AI features also remain a major part of the Pixel experience. The company's Gemini-powered tools are designed to help users find information, respond to messages and perform tasks without constantly switching between applications.

Pixel 11 Pro Fold Camera

Foldable phones continue to face an important compromise when it comes to cameras.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has a 48MP main camera, along with a 10.5MP ultrawide and 10.8MP telephoto camera. It also includes 10MP selfie cameras on both the cover and inner displays.

Google has improved the main sensor's ability to capture light and increased its Super Res Zoom capability to 30x, up from 20x on the previous generation.

There's also a new Magic Capture feature that can analyze a scene and automatically select useful frames from video.

That's particularly interesting for situations where a photo opportunity might only last for a moment. Instead of trying to press the shutter at exactly the right time, users can capture the scene and allow the phone to identify promising frames.

However, the camera hardware still doesn't match the camera system found on Google's conventional Pixel 11 Pro models.

Battery Capacity Drops Slightly

Google has made the phone slimmer, but there's a small compromise in battery capacity.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold packs a 4,806mAh battery, compared with 5,015mAh in the previous generation.

Google nevertheless says the phone can provide more than 24 hours of battery life under its stated usage conditions. Real-world endurance will naturally depend on screen brightness, cellular connectivity, gaming, camera use and other factors.

The phone is powered by Google's Tensor G6 chipset and comes with 16GB of RAM. Storage options include 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.

Pixel 11 Pro Fold Price

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold starts at $1,899 in the U.S.

That's $100 more than the previous generation, putting the phone firmly into premium flagship territory.

The pricing becomes particularly important because buyers now have more alternatives. Samsung, Motorola and other manufacturers are competing aggressively in the foldable market, while newer wide-format foldables are also changing what consumers expect from large-screen phones.

That means the Pixel 11 Pro Fold isn't competing simply on being a foldable. Google needs its software, AI features, durability and Pixel experience to justify the premium.

Is the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold Worth Buying?

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is best understood as a refined and more durable Pixel foldable, rather than a dramatic redesign.

Its strongest advantages include the tougher construction, IP68 protection, brighter display, lighter body, Google's software experience and useful AI features. The updated camera system and Magic Capture also add some value.

On the other hand, the visible inner-screen crease, inconsistent foldable app optimization and camera hardware that falls behind Google's regular Pro phones prevent it from being an obvious winner.

For dedicated Pixel fans who specifically want a foldable, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold remains an attractive choice. But buyers comparing several premium foldables should look carefully at competing devices before spending nearly $1,900.

Final Verdict

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold doesn't reinvent the foldable smartphone, but it makes Google's existing formula tougher and more polished.

Its durability improvements are arguably the most meaningful upgrade, while the brighter display and lighter construction make the device easier to live with. However, Google's decision to retain a relatively traditional design means it faces increasing pressure from newer wide-format foldables.

For Pixel enthusiasts, that may be enough. For everyone else, the competition deserves a close look before making a purchase.
